Once Upon a Time: Storytelling Class

  • 17 November 2025

Jakarta, September 2025 — For three inspiring days, from September 24 to 26, 2025, laughter and creativity filled Nizamia Andalusia Kindergarten (NAK). Teachers from both NAK and Nizamia Andalusia Primary School (NAPS) gathered for a special training program titled "Once Upon A Time: Storytelling Class", designed to help educators bring the magic of stories to life.

This training aimed to enhance teacher's creativity and communication skills, encouraging them to make every learning moment more engaging, meaningful, and full of imagination. Leading the sessions was Kak Rezki, a well-known national storyteller celebrated for his interactive style, expressive storytelling techniques, and ability to inspire educators to see stories as powerful tools for connection and learning.

From the very first day, the energy in the room began to grow. Teachers learned about the fundamentals and standards of storytelling, exploring what makes a good story come alive. On the second day, participants practiced building storylines and delivering them with voice, tone, and pacing — blending theory with practice. The final day served as the highlight, featuring a roleplay storytelling session, where teachers took turns performing their stories with full expression and creativity. The room came alive as each participant transformed into a storyteller, turning the classroom into a small stage of imagination.

Throughout the workshop, Kak Rezki shared meaningful insights about how storytelling can be a bridge between teachers and students. "Storytelling is not just about telling tales — it's about creating moments of wonder that help children see, feel, and understand the world", he said during one of the reflection sessions. His message reminded everyone that stories are one of the oldest and most powerful ways to teach values, spark imagination, and strengthen empathy.

Participants also learned practical techniques such as using facial expressions, gestures, and props to enhance their performance. More importantly, they were guided to select stories that align with student's developmental stages and moral growth. These new insights equipped teachers with the confidence to use storytelling not only as entertainment, but as an educational and emotional learning tool.

By the end of the third day, the atmosphere was filled with pride and inspiration. Teachers reflected on how storytelling can become an essential part of everyday classroom practice — a way to spark curiosity, build confidence, and foster stronger communication between teachers and students. "This training opened our minds about how storytelling can transform the classroom atmosphere. Through stories, we can teach empathy, patience, and courage in a way children truly remember", shared Ibu Zahra, NAK Teacher.

The workshop concluded with smiles, applause, and photo sessions capturing the joyful spirit of learning together. The Storytelling Class became more than just a training program — it was a celebration of creativity, imagination, and the heart of teaching itself. Through initiatives like this, Nizamia Andalusia School continues to strengthen its mission to foster creative, empathetic, and skilled educators — teachers who can make every classroom a place where stories inspire growth, imagination, and humanity.
