Jakarta, September 2025 — The Home of The Falcons Auditorium, 3rd Floor, was filled with enthusiasm and curiosity as around 40 educators from Nizamia Andalusia School gathered for a transformative workshop titled "Positive Discipline in Action: From Challenges to Opportunities". Teachers from all levels, from Kindergarten to High School, joined the session with one shared goal: to learn how positive discipline can turn classroom challenges into opportunities for growth and connection.
Led by psychologist, child development expert, and Founder of Ruang Tumbuh, Ibu Irma Gustiana A., M.Psi., the session invited participants to rediscover the true essence of positive discipline in education. Through engaging discussions and reflections, participants were guided to revisit a fundamental question: "Do we want children to obey because they are afraid, or to act responsibly because they understand?"
This question became the foundation for a deep exploration of how discipline can move beyond punishment-based approaches toward nurturing awareness, empathy, and accountability in students. Ibu Irma emphasized that effective discipline starts from understanding children's emotional needs and helping them internalize values through connection, not control.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in a combination of material presentations, roleplays, and interactive discussions. They explored real classroom situations and practiced how to respond with empathy while maintaining firm, consistent boundaries. As they connected emotionally and intellectually to the scenarios, many educators found their own "aha moments" — signs of deeper understanding and renewed perspective.
As the workshop unfolded, the atmosphere became one of genuine connection and mutual learning. Teachers openly shared their experiences and challenges, from handling emotional outbursts in younger students to encouraging responsibility in teenagers. Every reflection deepened the shared understanding that discipline works best when it is grounded in trust, communication, and compassion. "Positive discipline teaches us that guidance comes from connection, not control", said Ibu Cut Yunita
Through programs like this, Nizamia Andalusia School reaffirms its mission to cultivate an environment where teachers model empathy, integrity, and patience in their everyday practice. The Positive Discipline in Action workshop stands as a testament to the school's ongoing commitment to shaping an educational culture where every child feels safe, respected, and empowered to learn not only with their minds, but also with their hearts.
